5 Favorite Finance Books for Business Women

Over my many years coaching women in business, I’ve come to realize that many of us are uncomfortable making money. A huge part of succeeding in business involves being comfortable making, saving and enjoying money. With that in mind, here are my five favorite finance books for business women.

1. Smart Women Finish Rich – David Bach
Smart Women Finish Rich is a bit different from other financial books I’ve read. I have to admit I was surprised with how well David Bach addressed both the emotional and intellectual relationship women have with money.

I am going to say that Smart Women Finish Rich is more for a financial beginner than a woman with financial savvy. It’s a well thought out system of gaining and keeping control of your financial self-sufficiency. Bach has filled this book with definitions, resources, quizzes, systems, exercises and tables. I was impressed and give it a must read if you’re serious about becoming more financially organized.

2. The 5 Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me for Women – Richard Paul Evans
The 5 Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me for Women About Life and Wealth is short, sweet and filled with financial pearls of wisdom. Commonsense advice, valuable resources and motivational quotations make this little book a must read for any woman ready for financial success.

Truthfully, I am always a little skeptical of men writing books aimed at women. I was happy to realize that Richard Paul Evans was inspired to write this book based on the advice he gave his niece and the lessons from his first book The 5 Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me About Life and Wealth. He uses the same five keys as the first book but adds tips, statistics and examples aimed at women and our specific financial needs. This book didn’t disappoint!

3. Women & Money – Suze Orman
Suze Orman is clear, even from the very first few pages, that she’s shocked by just how “clueless” so many women are about their own finances. All types of women – lawyers, schoolteachers, moms, successful business owners, even her best friends. Women, she found, are reluctant to take control of their finances and even more reluctant to seize their financial power.

I see Women & Money as a how-to blueprint for gaining and retaining control of our personal finances. There’s something here for everyone, no matter your financial “intelligence.” Example: You don’t need to wait until you have thousands and thousands of dollars to invest for the future. Women with all different financial abilities will benefit from reading this book. Beginners can start off on the right foot. Savvy women, who haven’t yet taken control of their own finances, can begin moving forward with confidence.

4. Overcoming Underearning – Barbara Stanny
Do you feel you are not earning the money you deserve? If you answered “yes” to this question, then I invite you to start reading Overcoming Underearning by Barbara Stanny.

Barbara Stanny takes us though a five-step plan for creating a richer and fuller financial life. She starts with an interesting and thought provoking “Underearning” quiz that will have you answering some thought provoking questions about money. This quiz is designed to help us begin thinking about and understanding the relationship we currently have with money and prosperity.

5. How To Create the Mindset of Prosperity and Wealth – Sharon Michaels
Yes, I am the author. I wrote How To Create the Mindset of Prosperity and Wealth to share the lessons I learned working to change my own “struggling” mindset. In this Kindle ebook, I share with you how to stop placing limitations on your moneymaking potential.

All of this begins with the mindset of prosperity and wealth. Developing this powerful mindset begins with looking back at childhood values and beliefs and figuring out what serves us today as an adult and what should be left behind or revised.

How To Create the Mindset of Prosperity and Wealth is written in short chapters filled with moneymaking activities that you can apply immediately to your life. By the end of this easy-to-read Kindle ebook, you should have a better idea about what makes you “tick” emotionally when it comes to making, enjoying, spending and saving money.
