This classic book written by Spencer Johnson is about the ability to change as our personal and professional world keeps changing. Reviews have been mixed on this book and bottom line is that you are either going to love it or hate it – there doesn’t seen to be a middle ground.

I’m on the side of “liking” Who Moved My Cheese?. When it was first published in 1998 it was a new type of “business” book. It was a business and life lesson told in the form of story. I know, parables have been around for centuries but they hadn’t been used often in the business world and especially as a training tool.
Personally, I’ve used this book as a book selection for my leaders in a network marketing company, suggested it to coaching clients and have read it myself several times. It is a quick read – I read it in less than 45 minutes. The whole point of the story is to get the reader thinking about the importance of change and how we can choose to react to the changing world around us.
I’m recommending Who Moved My Cheese? because the personal and professional world around us has been changing so quickly. Look back at just the past five years – the economy has changed drastically, the way we view employment and business has changed drastically and the way we choose spend and save our money has changed drastically. In reality, if we aren’t able to change our paradigms quickly and effectively, we probably won’t be able to succeed professionally and financially the ways we have in the past.Who Moved My Cheese? is about taking risks, adapting to change, coming out of your comfort zone and learning new ways to succeed and thrive in an ever changing world. It is about preparing and adapting to change. Yes, these lessons are disguised as a simple story about mice and little people but the heart of this book lies in opening our mind and heart to accepting change.
I agree, change isn’t always fun and often it is not easy but in life, and in business, change is necessary. I suggest you read this book with an open mind and look at how you can apply the suggestions in this book to your own life. Change is inevitable. We have choices; we can embrace change or fight change. I like this quote from the book: “Noticing change early helps you adapt to bigger changes that are to come.”
I’ll say it again, change is inevitable – you cannot stop change. What you can control is how you choose to handle the changes in your life and your business. I recommend Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson as reminder of why it is important to have an open mind, and even an open heart, to “change.” If you’ve read this book before, it may be time to read it again.
