Granny’s Snickerdoodles

Granny always kept the cookie jar filled with these wonderful cinnamon-sugar cookies. My friends always wanted to stop by to see her and sneak into the jar with me. She is famous for them at church and always makes them for her quilting bees. Everyone loves them! You will too! They have crispy edges, but chewy centers. You can make them for any occasion, and feel confident that they will be a hit!

Ingredients
• 1/2 cup butter, softened
• 1/2 cup shortening
• 1 1/2 cups white sugar
• 2 eggs
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 2 tablespoons white sugar
• 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar, the eggs and the vanilla.
3. Blend in the flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt.
4. Shape dough by rounded spoonfuls into balls.
5. In a small bowl, mix the 2 tablespoons sugar and the cinnamon.
6. Roll balls of dough in mixture.
7. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
8. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, or until set but not too hard.
9. Remove immediately from baking sheets.

Makes 4 dozen. Yum!
