I am impressed with this book! The premise rings true with me: Let’s stop focusing on what’s wrong with us and begin focusing on discovering, developing and enjoying our natural gifts, talents and strengths. This book can literally be your “strengths finder.”

Again, another one of these books I’ve had on my shelf for awhile that I've been meaning to read. I’m extremely glad I took the time to “get around to it.” Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath and published by Gallup Press is a gem for anyone interested in personal and professional development.
Here’s is an example:
I’d say that paragraph alone is enough incentive to begin reading this book.“Our studies indicate that people who do have the opportunity to focus on their strengths everyday are six times as likely to be engaged in their jobs and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life in general.”
Strengths Finders 2.0 isn’t just about finding your own strengths, but also about acknowledging and verifying the strengths of others. I believe it is a great book for managers, supervisors, bosses and leaders to recommend to their employees and teams. It will also make a great Book Club selection for your Mastermind group or for network marketing team meetings.
This book is based on the work of Don Clifton who is widely considered the Father of Strengths Psychology. The Gallup scientists have worked with thousands of people to determine the importance of discovering and nurturing our natural gifts and talents. Their research shows that the most successful people start with a dominant talent and then add skills, knowledge and consistent practice so they can fully build a powerful and rewarding “strength.”
As I read this book, I found this to be an interesting discovery about people who worked at jobs that did not allow them to use their natural talents and strengths:
- dread going to work
- have more negative than positive interaction with colleagues
- treat customers poorly
- tell their friends what a miserable company they work for
- achieve less on a daily basis
- have fewer positive and creative moments.
Caveat: If you decide to purchase a used book, be sure the packet is still unopened or attached so you’ll be able to participate on the website. It contains a code you'll need to access the quiz and activities.
Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath also includes 34 Strengths Themes and Ideas for Action – again worth the purchase of the book.
This quote from the book rang so true for me: “Far too many people spend a lifetime headed in the wrong direction.” I highly recommend this book.
