Follow Me! - A Review

Follow Me! – Creating a Personal Brand with Twitter is a well-written guide to building a recognizable brand for your business. The key to succeeding on Twitter, and other social media, is to stand above the crowd with a clear brand message and this book can help you do just that.

The author Sarah-Jayne Gratton,@grattongirl has created a recognizable brand for herself through the careful and well thought out use of Twitter. Over the years, she’s learned how to turn her tweets into an online marketing machine. What is the key to the author’s success? Knowing how to build a recognizable brand based on cultivating trust among her thousands of Twitter followers.

Twitter and social media have opened up a whole new area of marketing for the small business owner. With social media, marketing your business has become more personal. It’s the personal one-on-one marketing that allows you to get to know your target market quickly and in turn, allows your target market to evaluate your business in “real-time.”

In Follow Me! the author @grattongirl divides her book into four parts:
Part One: Twitter, You’ve Come a Long Way
Part Two: Creating and Showcasing Your Brand
Part Three: Twitter Branding Showcase Stories
Part Four: Twitter Toolkit: Supercharge Your Brand

I read this book with pen and paper because the author provided so many useful and practical suggestions for not only building my Twitter following and brand but, building a better personal brand in all aspects of my marketing efforts. This isn’t just a book about Twitter but, a real-world book about how to a build a viable marketing brand in all areas of business.

I’m a big believer in providing “real world” examples and Follow Me! is filled with easy to understand and well illustrated examples. I thought one of the most useful exercises was found in Chapter 3 – Building Brand “You.” The author had us write our personal brand statement in 140 characters or less. It had me thinking carefully about how I could define my brand more succinctly. Here’s @grattongirl’s 140 character brand statement: “I delight in helping others create and unleash their personal brand on Twitter @grattongirl #teamgratton” Her brand statement contains only 140 characters and yet, carries a powerful message.

I don’t have to tell you the power of Twitter as a global marketing tool. What Follow Me! – Creating a Personal Brand with Twitter does, is show you how to harness this marketing power to create a personal brand that will showcase not only your business but also, your personality. If you are interested in gaining more followers and standing out above the Twitter crowd, this book is well worth reading with pen and paper. I recommend you do the exercises, read the examples and make the time to fine-tune the skills it takes to get an impactful message across in 140 characters or less.
