Attract New Email Subscribers Using Social Media

Your presence on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and other social media venues provide a unique opportunity to build your email subscriber base and make your business known to a wider audience of potential customers. Are you attracting new email subscribers using your social media resources?

Think about all the potential customers you are currently interacting with on Facebook, Twitter or, Pinterest. Are you turning these potential customers into loyal newsletter subscribers? If you’re not, then here are five ways to harness the power of social media and turn friends and followers into subscribers.

1. Tell your social networks about your newsletter and invite them to subscribe.
Many of us “assume” our social networking contacts know what we offer and will automatically subscribe to our mailing lists. I’ve learned to assume nothing. Let your social media contacts know that you have a mailing list and invite them to subscribe. Give them a reason to subscribe by offering a free product or limited time special offer.

2. Set up a Facebook tab for easy sign up.
You can create a custom tab sign-up form right on your Facebook page. With a custom tab, fans can subscribe directly from your Facebook page. I have one on my Women Enjoying Success Facebook page. I’ve found the best location for the sign up tab is in one of the “squares” just below my cover photo. I use Constant Contact for my email marketing and they provided me with a downloadable “app” that fits right into the Facebook “square” – the tab was fast and easy to create.

3. Promote your email sign up form on your blog.
Your blog is part of your social media presence. Do you have an easy to use sign up form prominently displayed in the sidebar of your blog? I’d also recommend you place a subscriber form or link to your email sign up page at the bottom of each blog post.

4. Make a sign-up offer your social networking contacts won’t want to refuse.
Offer a Special Report, a free webinar or other enticing offer to attract new subscribers to join your email list. A free bonus offer for new subscribers will allow you to showcase your company and your products. Encourage your social media friends and followers to share your sign up offer with their friends and followers.

5. Send your email subscribers to your social media sites.
Let your email list know about all your social media sites – Facebook pages, Pinterest pins, blog posts and others. Add social media buttons to your emails and your email signature. You can find downloadable buttons for Facebook “likes” and Twitter’s “Tweet This” on each of those social networking sites. When you use social networking buttons in emails, your subscribers can share your content with their friends and fans without leaving your email message.

Another point to consider, is to discover which social networking sites your target market uses most often and focus your subscriber campaign on those venues. The key to increasing subscription numbers is to make your presence known on a variety of social media sites and then, make it easy and worthwhile for your social media contacts to join your email list.
