I coach women in network marketing, women who own storefront businesses, women who own franchises and women in business who work from home. I’ve discovered something very interesting they all share in common: The business owners who talked positively about money, were making money. The business owners who talked negatively about money, were struggling financially.
Let me ask you this:
How do you think about money?
How do you talk about money?
How do you spend money?
What do you believe about your ability to make money?
I recently had a coaching session with a woman leader in a network marketing company whose business had been declining for the past year. She was getting discouraged. I asked her to write out everything she believed about offering the business opportunity to others. She came up with a list of six or seven items – a great way to meet friends, will improve your self-confidence, etc. Not one of the items mentioned anything about the potential for making money or earning an income.
I thought back to our coaching sessions -
Did she talk negatively about her ability to make money? Yes, she did.
Was she focusing her energy on the lack of money? Yes, she was.
Had she stopped believing her team could or would make money? Yes!
Over the years, I’ve discovered that the way you talk about money is projected to others with what I call “money energy.” Your money energy is conveyed through body language and, the words you are using to talk about your business and your life. Believe it or not, you are unconsciously broadcasting your positive or negative financial beliefs to others.
Let’s go back to the woman leader in network marketing. She often mentioned that she couldn’t seem to recruit women who wanted to make money. Why do you think that was happening?
If you said because she never mentioned that by joining her team they would have the potential to make money, you’d be right. Or, her lack of belief in her team’s ability to make money was sending out negative money energy, you’d be right. Her “money energy” was coming across loud and clear.
