Cottage Cheese NutritionI love cottage cheese. It has a creamy flavor, nice texture and you can mix it with all sorts of things. It is the perfect side dish for any salad type you want to eat. How good is cottage cheese on a low carb diet? Cottage cheese is also known as farmer's cheese and is so named because it was made in rural areas. This was a very normal food item in Europe in the middle ages, and was made in colonial America as well. In essence you mix milk with bacteria, and the milk naturally forms curds. All you needed was a cow or goat, and some bacteria! A cup of cottage cheese has only 3g of carbs in it! It has 116 calories too. It's not a nutrition powerhouse - it only has 7% calcium, 4% vitamin A, and 1% iron. It does supply 14g of protein, though. Between the calcium and protein, it really is a good part of any healthy diet. For me this is the perfect afternoon snack. I can have a scoop of this with some tuna fish (0g carbs) and feel quite full. It goes well along with a salad. If you have a sweet craving, add a few berries to it. Well recommended for low carbers!
