Margarita Recipe

Talk about the perfect summertime drink! Margaritas are mixtures of tequila and orange flavor. The trick in a low carb world is to choose non-sugar-filled components.

For example, a classic recipe for a margarita would include:

2oz Tequila
1/2oz Grand Marnier
2oz lime juice

Tequila, to start, is 0g per oz.

Neato, but Grand Marnier is a sugar-orange liqueur. You'd get 5.5g in this drink from the Grand Marnier alone. Maybe that's not a lot for you if you're a long term low carber - but maybe it is, if you're just starting in low carb.

The lime juice causes a problem, too. That's 5.4g for the 2oz of lime juice.

So you've already got 10.9g in this one drink. You can make it without the lime juice, cutting it down to 5.5g.

That can be great for anybody who is deep into the low carb lifestyle, where they are eating 70g or 80g a day and maintaining a healthy weight. It might be more of a challenge for people just starting out, who are trying to lose weight and who are on lower carb counts each day.

I've come up with a really low carb version though!
