Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows : Chapter 2Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows chapter 2, In Memoriam. The chapter opens with Harry Potter’s finger bleeding. He stops the flow of blood in the bathroom. Potter has not learned how to magically repair wounds. There is a cup of tea outside his door which he breaks. It is a Dudley booby trap. His finger no longer bleeding, Harry Potter continues to sort the items in his trunk. There is a pile of discards. He packs the desired items in a rucksack. Muggle clothing, Invisibility Cloak, potion-making kit, text books, photograph book and wand are some of the items. He finds an old copy of the Daily Prophet. Charity Burbage resigns from teaching Muggle Studies at Hogwarts. Elphias Doge writes a glowing memoriam for his dear, departed friend, Albus Dumbledore. It chronicles their school days at Hogwarts and Dumbledore’s many achievements in his later years. Doge praises the deceased Headmaster for Grindelwald’s defeat. It amazes the boy wizard to learn so much about the Professor’s past. He realizes that there is so much about the man that he does not know. Dumbledore’s father kills three Muggles and dies in Azkaban. After his mother’s, Kendra, death, Albus Dumbledore remains home to care for his orphan brother, Aberforth, and his sister, Ariana. His brother breaks Albus’ nose. Rita Skeeter is back on the Daily Prophet’s payroll. She is writing The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore. She promises the biography will tell everything. It will contain every dirty detail of the so-call great wizard’s life. Skeeter claims Dumbledore was not as pure as the freshly fallen snow. Betty Braithwaite writes of her Rita Skeeter’s interview in the writer’s home. She writes of Rita in positive tones. During the interview, smart Rita only hints at what are in the book. Skeeter wants the public to buy and read it themselves. There are hints that there are something unnatural when comes to Ariana’s death, Grindelwald’s end and of course, Dumbledore's relationship with Harry Potter. Harry considers Rita Skeeter words lies. He picks up a broken mirror. It is a gift from his godfather, Sirius Black. This is the mirror on which he cuts his finger earlier. Instead of seeing a reflection of his green eye, he views a blue eye. Harry Potter is certain it is a figment of his imagination. Harry Potter is learning his idol, Albus Dumbledore is more than a teacher. There are many sides to the wizard. As there are many sides to all of us. Think about this as you read the chapter.
