January Daily Prompts - Week 3

January 15th - "The past is a foreign country ; they do things differently there." by L. P. Hertley is a reminder that sometimes our perspective and understanding of situations change as we grow and mature as people.

Have you ever watched a movie you haven't seen in years and suddenly it clicks or makes sense in a way it never did before? Describe a situation recently where your understanding or ability to do something changed dramatically from a past experience.

January 16th - January is National Book Month. What is a book you've read recently that really spoke to you or entertained you? Was there a character or situation you identified with? Describe that.

January 17th - Benjamin Franklin's birthday is today and this founding father was quite a character. His tidbits of wisdom have been often quoted, and some of his inventions are still in use today. One of my current favorite quotes by Benjamin Franklin is "Watch the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves".

To me this is an admonition to remember to pay attention to the small details. What are the small details in your life that you have been ignoring for too long that are starting to add up? What little changes do you need to make?

January 18th - How are you doing with the goals you set at the beginning of the year? Take some time to evaluate what is working for you, what is not working, and what needs to be "tweaked" to work better.

January 19th - Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day and one of the things that he is most well-known for is his speech, "I Have a Dream". I love that he was willing to stand up against the discrimination he saw around him.

The sad truth is, we still have a long way to go towards conquering inequality and discrimination in this world. I have personally experienced discrimination because of the method in which I chose to feed my newborn baby. It was extremely healing to sit and write out a response to that situation.

Today, write about a situation where you have personally experienced, or observed, discrimination. You can write out a response to the situation, or write an 'alternative ending' type of story where the discrimination was resolved.

January 20th - Today is Inauguration Day! If you were President of your own country, what issues do you see yourself feeling passionate about. Why are these things that you feel strongly about?

January 21st - Yesterday was the first day of Aquarius, the water-bearer sign. This sign is said to have conflicting traits at times. While I am not into astrology personally, (nor am I an Aquarius) I do have some conflicting traits. I think most people do have elements of their personality that do not mesh perfectly. What conflicting or ironic traits do you have? How does that combine to make you a unique and interesting character.

Stop by the forums and share the answers to your journaling prompts if you want.
