World Centers--Our Cabaña
Guest Author - Diana Laulainen-Schein

The third World Center to open its doors was Our Cabaña in 1957. Our Cabaña is located in the suburbs of Cuernavaca, Mexico. With housing for 84, it is the largest of the four world centers and is located about an hour south of Mexico City. Also available in Mexico City is a Girl Scouts and Girl Guides hostel called Ticalli.

Facilities at Our Cabaña include a series of buildings for programs and accomodations plus five acres of gardens and a pool. Our Cabaña operates on a program schedule with themes for adults including Mexican heritage, Mexican festivals, and cooking. Programs for girls center mainly on the mission of Our Cabaña, which is to “challenge young women to live and value international friendship and understanding.” There is also an opportunity to learn to speak Spanish!

Travelling away from Our Cabaña, visitors can shop for silver and crafts in in Cuernavaca, Taxco, and Tepoztlán. Acapulco hosts aquatic activites for Girl Scouts and Guides, including scuba diving and snorkeling. Guests at Our Cabaña also may visit the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary in the state of Michoacán from mid February to early March.

For more information concerning opportunites at Our Cabaña , click the links to the right.
