Swedish Apple Pie Recipe

Yes, we love this type of baking and the presentation is always consistent, no worries about a burnt pie crust and many people simply love pie but don’t enjoy preparing the pie crust. Even with pre-made crusts which are great, they demand a bit more attention and time.

This is a tried and true recipe that my mom gave me years ago. She was great at allowing me to bake and create when I was a child and I am so grateful with the patience she showed me in this area. I remember one of the first things she showed me was how to take extra pie crust dough, cut it into strips, twist them, brush with butter and cinnamon sugar and bake them and my kids did the same with me when they were younger…very good memories 

So back to the recipe at hand and if you have children or grandchildren, nieces or nephews, you can easily enlist their help as well. When they get older they’ll have a pretty fail proof recipe for their friends and new families.

To start, pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.

You can use any type of apple for this recipe, so pick your favorites. Now is the time for apple picking so mix it up a bit at your local market choosing a few different varieties or what’s tried and true for you.

Spray your pie pan (easier clean up!) and fill ¾ full with peeled, cored and sliced apples.

Sprinkle with:
1 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon
1 tablespoon of granulated cane sugar
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
¼ teaspoon of grated nutmeg

In a large bowl combine:

¾ cup of melted butter
1 cup of granulated cane sugar
1 cup flour
1 large egg
¼ teaspoon salt

Make sure ingredients are mixed well (not beaten, just mixed well) and pour batter over apples.

Bake at 350 degrees, 35 -45 minutes or until golden brown. Let stand for about ten minutes to set before serving. You may serve this like any apple pie, hot or cold, with ice cream, whipped cream or a slice of sharp cheddar cheese.

This is one of those recipes that we love to bake, simple, delicious and man it makes the house smell good too! Have fun, enjoy and as always, have a blessed and wonderful week!
