Jumping on the bandwagon of the '08 predictionists - I figure I'll make like Nostradamus and prophecize. (It's like Jazzercise, but where I don an 80's style leotard and exercise my prediction muscles to jazzy music.)
Work at Home Moms:
I, the Great Megzie, predict with uncertain certainty that more women who want to stay home with the kids while still contributing to the family purse will extend maternity leave and jump into the world of working at home.
25% will go further into debt, spending money they don't have on the promises of get-rich-quick infomercials. They continue to help others get rich, without fixing any of their own problems, and have to answer to the significant other and children when the credit card is inexplicably maxed.
25% will dabble, and start slowly. In between breastfeeding and naps, they will search out ideas on the internet. They will try a few that do not cost any money, but require them to solicit joiners among their own friends and family. Some will carve out their own niche on the internet, blogging, and building websites of interest to other moms. They get hosting, learn free lessons on blogging and web design, and make enough money to cover the site for a year in the first couple of months. Their slow burn approach may make critical mass before they are asked to return to work.
25% will become dupes, and then dupe their support system to make a buck. They may claim that their son needs a new kidney, or that their money supports charity. Unless there is proof - be skeptical. People do less-than-noble things to pay the mortgage.
And the final 25% will be smart and develop and research their idea. They will learn how to create and work from a business plan, solicit start-up funds that don't risk the money of the family. They will hire the right professional support and not irritate their dear ones with serial claims of the next big thing. They will be of the select many that will "show" their hubbies and children that they CAN be a busy mom and start their own business too. And they probably make some kick-butt dinners and educate their children while delivering killer customer service to their clients all over the world.
P.S. I'm looking for aspiring and successful entrepreneurs to interview for my internet radio show. If you have a story or a question that you feel may be of interest to the internet radio listening public - get in touch using the contact page.
