Burgundy, France - The Home of Robust Wines
Guest Author - Paula S.W. Laurita

In Burgundy life is lived with an earthy joy. The wines of this region reflect that attitude.

This French wine region offers the visitor hearty food and robust wines. Burgundians are proud people. The Dukes of Burgundy once ruled a territory that stretched into Belgium.

The wines of this region are a source of great pride. The vineyards of Burgundy are spread between four different departments, the Yonne, Cote d'Or, Saone et Loire, and the Rhone. There are also five separate and distict regions; Chablis and the Auxerriors, the Cote d'Or, the Cote Chalonnaise, the Maconnais, and the Beaujolais.

If you visit Burgundy you will find many wineries open to visitors. You can seek our lesser known wines and fine, out of the way restaurants. There are many small villages off the main roads. Each offers a unique flavor.

During my visits to Burgundy I often make my base in Beaune and travel out from there. To the north is Dijon, and yes, you will find the great mustards in this region. You can easily spend a week exploring this wonderful region of France.

Featured Wines

The wines of Burgundy come in both red and white.

Henri de Villamont Bourgogne Chardonnay
Wow! What a great wine at a great price! This Chardonnay has wonderful floral aromas and fantastic flavors of crisp, green apple. This is a wine to take seriously, with a long, delicious finish. $10.

Jean-Luc Aegerter Bourgogne Pinot Noir Reserve Personelle
A classic Burgundy at a wonderful price. You'll encounter dark cherry and dark berry flavors. A Pinot Noir that defines excellent finish. The flavors will linger in your mouth for a loooooong time. This is a terrific wine for $15.
