A daiquiri is a traditional Latin American drink, created with rum and fruit. I happen to adore strawberry daquiris. Here is a recipe for you to make your own.
This frozen concoction is perfect for summer afternoon sipping. It's fruity, refreshing and cool!
1oz lime juice
6 ice cubes
4 strawberries, sliced
2 tsp sugar
Blend all together in blender until smooth. Serve and enjoy with a strawberry slice!

My suggestions for the perfect daiquiri? Use Bacardi rum, I always found the flavor of this to work quite nicely for this drink. Get big, ripe strawberries, so that they are soft and sweet. If you're a low carber, you can easily use Splenda rather than sugar. In that case you really only get carbs from the lime juice and strawberries. Say about 1g of carbs each for the strawberries, and check your lime juice bottle to see what the carb count on that is. It varies by brand. If you're actually using a wedge, guess about 1/2g for that.
THE HISTORY OF THE DAIQUIRI
Just where did the daiquiri come from? Legend has it that it was first created in the early 1900s, in that island nation of Cuba. There is in fact a beach in Cuba named Daiquiri, which would seem to be the namesake of this drink. There is an article of the Miami Herald from the late 1930s which reviews this history. Of course, we can't be sure if anybody drank a similar mixture *before* then, but it's a start at least.
If you love a daiquiri, you're in fine company! Ernest Hemingway, of The Old Man and the Sea fame, adored daiquiris. Mix yourself up a daiquiri, sit out on your back porch, and begin writing! You never know what sort of inspiration you might find. Daiquiris are also found in fine literature. One of the characters in Tennessee William's play "Suddenly Last Summer" was sure to have a daiquiri every evening. Sounds like a plan to me!
