Strong and Courageous Daisies

My youngest daughters is a Daisy, so for those of you with younger girls who thought I was done with the Brownie thing and moving onto Juniors only, not so!

Like the Brownie troop, the Daisy troop is running cooperatively as well, albeit not as smoothly yet since most of the leaders are new and new to each other. Nonetheless, I am finding I love Daisies. I have never been a Daisy leader before and 5- and 6-year-old girls are so darn cute! Several of us were waiting for school to let out to collect our Daisies for our meeting and when my daughter's class was dismissed, I had a pack of little girls run over in great excitement to give me a group hug. Yeah, that's why we do this, for moments like that.

Anyway, February was devoted to earning our "Courageous and Strong" petal (red). We had bought the girls some inexpensive Daisy bead bracelets from Oriental Trading and during our Thinking Day event, they introduced themselves to the older girls in attendance and gave the bracelets away. When we gathered as a troop, we talked about how difficult that was for them.

To further underscore the courageous trait, we had a selection of "novel" foods for the girls to try. Surprisingly, they were all very good about trying sushi, ginger, goat cheese, scones, dried bananas, and the like. To finish out the petal, after our weird treats, the girls attended a karate class at our local Little Gym. The gym treated the girls as if they all were having a "trial class" and thus did not charge us, which of course is always a bonus.

The whole day was fun to watch from the sushi to the little itty bitty karate punches and bows!
