Stacy's Multigrain Pita Chips
Stacy's multigrain pita chips are all natural, provide 2g of dietary fiber, and have no trans fats. If you're going to have a chip snack, these definitely fall into the good-for-you category!
The multi grain in this case is whole wheat flour, rye, rolled oats, flaxseed and sesame seeds. They are baked, not fried, and use sunflower oil. The description on the package calls it an "all natural snack" and indeed looking at the list of ingredients it seems to be standard ingredients plus normal "vitamin added" items like Thiamin Mononitrate and Riboflavin.
I'm not exactly sure that you can call adding Riboflavin to something a natural act, but it's not really a "bad" act either :)
The chips are hard and crunchy with little seeds embedded into them. They have a nice texture and a mild flavor. This makes them perfect for eating with whatever dip or salsa or cheese concoction you personally enjoy.
For nutrition, they have 140 calories for 8 chips. Also, 5g fat, of which 0.5g is saturated. No cholesterol, 270mg sodium, and 19g of carbs of which 2g are fiber. So that's 17g net carbs. Yes, that's high for people in induction, but it's a bit less than in most chips - and in general the chips are far more healthy.
There is also 3g of protein, and you get 4% of your iron per serving.
Now I have to point out here that the chance of eating only 8 chips at a time is probably slim, unless you have a lot of willpower or actually portion out 8 chips worth on a plate with some sort of a dip.
I really do enjoy the concept of eating "healthy things" - and as I said, eating these chips is far better than eating trans-fat-laden, nastily fried potato concoctions. Still, though, you're getting a lot of carbs, calories, and not a lot of nutrition overall when you eat these. So I really wouldn't recommend eating chips as a daily snack. If you're having friends over and they expect chips, then certainly put these out with healthy dips and salsas. But in general, for daily eating, try to choose things that are full of nutrition and that give your body what it needs in return for filling your stomach.
