Hold them close and hug them - in memory of Margaret Rose.
Since Kristen, our youngest daughter, called a few days ago I can't stop hugging my Schatzie and Fritz. Our daughter is devastated. We are all in shock and deeply saddened. Kristen's precious puppy, our little grand dog, Marge, passed away...suddenly and unexpectedly. She was almost 10 months old.
The cause of her death is still unknown. Some type of infection is suspected. Marge was scheduled to have her third eye surgery yesterday to correct a common disorder in English Bulldogs called "Cherry Eye". It's usually corrected by a single surgical procedure, but after two surgeries, there was still a problem with Marge's eye. Because she was still taking antibiotics after the second surgery, Kristen had been going home from work at lunchtime to give Marge her medicine. On Wednesday morning Marge was fine. Early Wednesday afternoon, Kristen found her little dog lying on the bedroom floor, still warm, but obviously gone. We are waiting for autopsy results.
We met Marge for the first time when she was only a few days old. Last November I went along with Kristen to choose her new puppy. A few days after Christmas, I had the privilege of cuddling an 8 week old pile of beautiful wrinkles for the long drive to her new home. For the entire 4 hour drive, she snuggled close, head buried in my shoulder, making sweet puppy sounds. My little grand dog and I "bonded" as I fell in love with the world's sweetest puppy.
Marge only recently grew into all her wonderful wrinkles. Though beauty is not a word usually associated with her breed, Marge was extremely beautiful and she absolutely knew it. She was very photogenic - a real ham!!!! When I was with her I couldn't put the camera down. She was always such a happy girl too. Marge had the sweetest personality a dog could ever have. She loved life, and she loved everyone and everything. Everyone loved her too. Our dear Kristen loved her most.
