December Journaling Prompts ~ Wks 3&4


December 15
December 15th is known as “Bill of Rights Day.” Write about freedom and the Bill of Rights. Write out 5 facts you know about the bill of rights and what they mean. If you do not know what the Bill of Rights is, look it up today.

December 16
The Boston Tea Party happened on December 16, 1773. Write about this historic event in our country and compare it to the recent tea parties of today.

December 17
The Wright Brothers made their first flight December 17, 1903. Write about plane travel and how it has affected your life today.

December 18
On December 18, 1886, baseball great Ty Cobb, was born. Baseball is considered to be “America’s Pastime.” Write about baseball and sports in general.

December 19
December 19th is “National Oatmeal Muffin Day.” Write about your favorite muffin. Is your oatmeal muffin going to be healthy or unhealthy?

December 20
December 20th is “Games Day.” Write about the different types of games you play alone, as a family or group. Does your family have game night?

December 21
Today is the 1st day of winter. Write about your favorite winter activity. How long has it been your favorite?

Also on this day, the first crossword puzzle was published in a newspaper. Do you do crossword puzzles? Write about the many different types of ‘puzzles’ are now being printed in newspapers.

December 22
Christmas lights are seen during December. December 22, 1882 marks the day Christmas lights were first solf. Write about light. Why do people use lights to decorate with? Why do you think people enjoy decorating with Christmas lights? How do you think this tradition began? Does your family decorate with lights for Christmas or any other holiday?

December 23
‘Roots Day’ is today. Theses roots are our family roots. Write about your family roots. A great day to begin writing about your family heritage.

December 24
Apollo 9 reached the moon on December 24, 1968. Write about space. Was reaching the moon really a large step for mankind? How has landing on the moon improved life here on earth?

December 25
Today is Christmas. God’s give to us is found in Jesus, His Only Begotten Son. Write today about God’s gift. Have you received it? Do you understand the gift? Do you reject the gift?

December 25th is also “National Pumpkin Pie Day.” Not sure why this is considered national pumpkin pie day but the lists of days says it is! Write about your favorite pie and when you bake it.

December 26th is “National Whiners Day.” Write about your favorite thing to whine about.

December 27
December 27th is “Visit the Zoo Day.” Write about your 1st memory of visiting a zoo. What do you remember and who were you with?

December 28
This date is important to Iowa. Iowa became the 29th state on December 28, 1846. Have you visited Iowa? What would you see if you visited Iowa? Do you know anything about Iowa? Write about Iowa today.

Also on this day chewing gum was patented in 1869. Do you chew gum? Write about other uses for gum other than chewing.

December 29
Today is about Texas. December 29, 1845, Texas became the 28th state. Have you visited Texas? What would you see if you visited Texas? Do you know anything about Texas? Write about Texas today.

December 30
Today seems to be alone. No national day, no important event found for this day. Write about taking a break from important days and events. Write about what you do in your spare time.

December 31
New Year’s Eve. The last day of the year. Write about the past year. Write about yur most exciting event, the saddest event, happiest event, most surprising event and that one event you wish you could change
