Summer of Controversy The Girl Scouts are in the news this July, and the news is not all good. In fact, it is downright controversial. I am still sorting out what I think of all the recent press, so I thought I would provide all of you with the links to some of the recent articles and if any of you have thoughts, please email me. A word about the columns first though. I realize that the columns are generally right-leaning; however, that does not mean that some of the points they raise are not valid. What they say is accurate even if their interpretations of some of the actions of the organization are biased at best. Despite those biases, these articles are out there and being discussed, for better or worse, and what they say cannot therefore simply be ignored. Here are three recent articles, the GSUSA response, and a follow up article by Jane Chastin. I anticipate more will be forthcoming on both sides, and I will edit and update this article as I see articles appear. If I can formulate a coherent and worthwhile response, I will write that too. For the most part, however, I am simply floored at the operations of the organization at the upper levels. In particular, I was shocked to discover that the center of this "refounding" of the movement is my very own Council and yet it was, well, not exactly public knowledge.
