Christmas Shopping on LDS.org

Christmas Shopping on LDS.org
Guest article by Terrie Bittner.

Did you know that you can purchase religious items at LDS.org, the official website for the church? Visit LDS.org and look at the list of links on the left. You will see one labeled "Order Church Materials." There are a large number of items that can be ordered at very reasonable costs and many of them make excellent Christmas gifts.

The online distribution center site has been updated, and you will be pleasantly surprised if you haven't visited in a while. The site is very easy to navigate. If you registered at the old site, you will need to re-register before purchasing. Departments are listed on the home page with subcategories to help you quickly find what you need. Following is a quick tour of some of the highlights:

Take a look under the Church Organizations section, and click on Young Women, and then on Supplemental Materials. Here you can find inexpensive gifts for the teenaged girl in your family. Gift possibilities include young women's jewelry, posters, stickers, values cards, videos and music. For only fifty cents, you can buy a poster for each age group class. Six dollars will purchase President Hinckley Speaks to Parents and Youth. This is a video and a guide. A logo pendent is only a dollar, and the chain for it is $2.50 or $3.50, depending on size.

Under supplemental items for Relief Society are some lovely gifts for women, and there is no charge for a few of them. You can order a free poster of the Relief Society Declaration. A Relief Society Emblem Pin is only six dollars and an emblem poster is only one dollar.

Primary children and teachers will enjoy playing with the visual aid cutout kits, sold for $2.50 each, and are divided by categories.

The genealogist will be thrilled with the selection of software, databases and research materials available on the site. If anyone in my family is reading this...the 1880 U.S. census makes a lovely gift at only 50 dollars! So does the poster of the Los Angeles temple for only 4 dollars.

The music resources on the site are especially nice gifts. The church offers an electronic keyboard for $89. It includes a carrying case and music stand. Don't know how to play? For only fourteen dollars, you can order a keyboard Course Kit. This amazing kit offers a book, a cassette, music notecards, cardboard keyboard and carrying case. You'll learn to read notes, play hymns, and use
your keyboard or an organ.

There is a unique collection of videos. "For They Shall Have Joy" features a deaf cast, using sign language, to teach the plan of salvation. This is only four dollars. Sound is included for those who can hear. The site also offers scripture stories for children, Book of Mormon videos, including some in sign language, and Legacy.

As you can see, there is a good variety of gifts on the site, and I've only listed a few. This is a wonderful place to start your shopping-but order before the crowds!
