Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:
- According to online retailer The Rught Stuf International, FUNimation has issued a recall of the first DVD collection of Birdy the Mighty Decode; however, no reason has been given for the recall. The DVD set was supposed to be released on October 26, but now the replacement version won't be released until November 30, 2010 (which is the same time that the second volume of Birdy the Mighty Decode is scheduled to be released). Right Stuf has said that if one of their customers has already received the set, it can be returned and exchanged for the replacement being released in November.
- The Kahala Theatre in Honolulu, Hawaii will be screening The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya film with English subtitles on October 29 as part of the theater's "Spotlight Asia!" series.
- Section 23 Films has announced their releases for January 2011. The Koihime Muso Complete Collection will be released on January 4, the 11 Eyes Complete Collection will be released on January 11, the Kampfer Complete Collection will be released on January 18, and Ghost Sweeper Mikami Collection 2 will be released on January 25. All of these releases will have Japanese audio with English subtitles.
- FUNimation has announced that the company will be returning to offering collectors editions for anime titles that will be released as complete 13-episode series and for the "Part 1" of two-part series releases; these will include a rigid box and a premium item. The premium editions will only be available for the first pressing. FUNimation will begin offering two editions for all new series starting in 2011. So far, FUNimation has announced that The Sacred Blacksmith and Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~ will be released with premium editions. The company is also launching a new line for its anime titles called "Anime Classics." Based on a title's sales and fan reaction to the show, the last box set for any title will either be in the "Anime Classics" line or the discounted "S.A.V.E." line. The first Anime Classics release will be a Gantz set that is due to be released in January 2011.
- The Portsmouth Museum of Art's SugiPOP! Anime Film Series began on Monday, October 25 with a screening of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. On November 8 is a screening of Cowboy Bebop. A screening of Spirited Away will take place on December 6, and a screening of Ghost in the Shell II will take place on December 13. The screenings are taking place at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre, which is located next door to the museum. SugiPOP! opened on October 13, and will run through January 16, 2011.
- Media Blasters has announced that the company has formed a partnership with media distributor Allegro. Media Blasters' AnimeWorks label will now be distributed by Allegro.
- Summer Wars won the Audience Award for Best Animation Feature during the Anaheim International Film Festival (AIFF).
