Welcome to Home Cooking first newletter.
When I first got married I had no interest in cooking nor did I want to. Take out was fine for me in my bachelorette days. I could get away with take out for my husband until the kids came. Money was tighter and baby formula was expensive. Thus started my adventure with cooking. And I made many mistakes. Good thing kids like simple foods like spaghetti. I can say as they grew so did my cooking skills. As a mother of 3 kids, who are now adults, I have had years of standing in front of a stove. Mulling over again and again, what should I cook tonight? Calling out to my family and friends, got any suggestions? 30-minute meals are not something current cooks have invented. Ever since humans began cooking with fire, meals had to be quick just in case you had to run away really fast from a wooly mammoth or crocodile.
Over the years I have had to be creative and budget wise. My goal here is to share what I have learned. Some subjects I will be writing about are:
Family meals, five basic food groups and ethnic cooking.
Since there are no wooly mammoths or crocodiles nearby I can find sales and availability at my local grocery store. So can you. I don’t like boring meals so I took an interest in ethnic foods as well as tweaking wonderful American food. I will share recipes with easily obtained ingredients.
Cooking at home means so much. It’s not just about the food it’s about the caring that went into it and the love of being together that makes cooking so special. Cooking is creative and moving. Cooking is something to get excited about. Cooking is experimental and about the freedom to choose. Where else can you be free from criticism and prejudice? Cooking is like music; it’s a universal language.
