January 12 2009 Alaska Newsletter

Dear Readers,

The cold finally enveloped Chistochina for several days. We had temperatures into the minus forties, warming up only several degrees during the day. Yesterday, however, some clouds started to roll in and as I write this, we are at a very balmy -2° F!

The Copper Basin 300 came through here over the weekend. A field of over 25 mushers spent four to eight hours at the Chistochina checkpoint. My husband and I manned the checkout procedure on Sunday morning, allowing the individuals checking mushers in to go home after working through the entire night and well into the morning. It made for a long day, but we enjoyed talking with some of the “back of the pack” mushers while they tended to their dogs.

The latest article is about cell phone coverage, as requested by a reader. I hope peope find it useful. If anyone else has a suggestion or request for article content, please feel free to send me a note. I’m happy to get your feedback.

Have a great week,
Kimi
