Dear Readers,
We’ve had a week of temperatures in the minus 20s and so today, when it has warmed up to ten below, it seems downright balmy outside. Of course, it is still cold by the standards of most Americans. But at least we aren’t dealing with anything unexpected or unusual – unlike those in the Seattle and Portland area. They may be having a white Christmas this year, but I don’t know that they appreciate it amidst the closed roads and businesses and icy conditions.
The Seattle weather has had quite an impact on travelers in Alaska as well. Alaska Airlines has cancelled numerous flights in the past few days, and as all flights during this week of Christmas were already booked solid, many families are cancelling their Christmas vacation plans. While many are disappointed, I think most Alaskans take such cancellations in stride as Mother Nature frequently has the last word in travel plans.
Have a safe week,
Kimi
