Greetings Everyone! Hope everyone has a great weekend. This week continues the discussion about Elder Abuse.  The topic of this week's article is signs and symptoms of elder abuse. You will find the link below.

I have made it to my 3 year anniversary of being away from my abuser for good. This past month has been rough mentally for me. Not only do the old memories crop up but I got married to Chuck on May 5th. We have known each other for 5 years. We dated briefly during one of my break ups with my abuser and then when I started the process of leaving my abuser, he was one of the people who helped me get away. If it weren't for him and a few other people, I probably wouldn't be writing this right now.

Announcement

A reader is working on a book of survivors stories. Here is what she posted in the forum to us about what she is looking for:

"One of the many things that continues to amaze me about family violence abuse survivors is their ability to play pretend and live their lives as though everything was normal in thier home.
I have been so intrigued by this since I too played the same game for many years prior to leaving 2 years ago. I have gotten a grant to put together a collection of stories from women who played the game and would love it any survivors were interested in sharing their personal stories. I have advertised across canada and have some wonderful peoms and short stories but it occurred to me that this forum was where I first voiced my own thoughts about the pain/anger/sadness etc I was feeling when I finally had the courage to leave. If anyone is interested, the safest bet would be for me to post a post office box number where the submissions could be mailed. If used, a small honorarium would be paid to the writer if she felt safe enough to receive a cheque.
Let me hear from you and if there is interest, I will post a box number. I am using only first names or initials for the writer's names. This is my way of ensuring that people are aware of survivors and victims and how hard it is for them.
