BellaOnline.com Domestic Violence Newsletter

Greetings Everyone! Hope everyone has a great weekend. This week concludes the discussion about Elder Abuse.  The topic of this week's article is causes and prevention of elder abuse. You will find the link below.

Can you believe summer is already here? Wesley, my son, is graduating 1st grade this coming Thursday. 1st grade went faster then kindergarten! At his young age, he is having flashes of memories of what my ex did to me. I didn't think he would remember as many things as he does. When he asks me if this or that happened and why, I explain to him in terms that he will understand without turning him against his father. Even though he hasn't seen his father in almost 3 years, eventually he may want a relationship with him. It will be up my ex to tell his side of the story, I try not to have any influence over it. What have you done in this situation? What do you tell your children? Come discuss this topic in the forums with others. I would love to hear your story!

Announcement

A reader is working on a book of survivors stories. Here is what she posted in the forum to us about what she is looking for:

"One of the many things that continues to amaze me about family violence abuse survivors is their ability to play pretend and live their lives as though everything was normal in thier home.
I have been so intrigued by this since I too played the same game for many years prior to leaving 2 years ago. I have gotten a grant to put together a collection of stories from women who played the game and would love it any survivors were interested in sharing their personal stories. I have advertised across canada and have some wonderful peoms and short stories but it occurred to me that this forum was where I first voiced my own thoughts about the pain/anger/sadness etc I was feeling when I finally had the courage to leave. If anyone is interested, the safest bet would be for me to post a post office box number where the submissions could be mailed. If used, a small honorarium would be paid to the writer if she felt safe enough to receive a cheque.
Let me hear from you and if there is interest, I will post a box number. I am using only first names or initials for the writer's names. This is my way of ensuring that people are aware of survivors and victims and how hard it is for them.
