Beer Fox Tip of the Week
If you are planning to attend Savor: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience in Washington DC this year, be on the lookout for Savor Flowers, the new collaboration beer between Jim Koch of Boston Beer Company and Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery. This is only the second time Samuel Adams has made a collaboration beer, but you can bet it will fall into the “extreme beers” category.
Savor Flowers will be made with rose water, a key ingredient in Turkish cuisine, and an experimental variety of hops that goes by the name of 369. Koch wanted to somehow use “barrel one,” the first bourbon barrel used to age Samuel Adams Triple Bock of 1993, so they created a tincture from the barrel that is used in Twisted Tea. This tincture is 15% abv, with a neutral flavor but plenty of firepower. Brewed in Mid-March, 2011, it will be a Savor exclusive, with a few to-go bottles available to festival attendees.

Beer News:
RIP – Pierre Celis (March 21, 1925- April 9, 2011) who saved the style of Belgian Witbier, a local style from the town of Hoegaarden in Belgium, from extinction in 1966. In the late 1980s, his brewery burned down, and he sold it to Interbrew, (now A-B Inbev), moving operations to Texas, where he established Celis Brewery under the management of his daughter, Christine Celis.

Craft Beer of the Week Award
Brewmasters Series, Imperial Porter, Long Trails Brewing Company, Bridgewaters Corners, VT, USA
Style: Imperial Porter, 8.3% ABV
Jet black, with a creamy, sticky head of taupe, this Imperial bad-boy is a sight to behold, with its sticky lace all over the glass. The nose is rich and roasty, like pumpernickel bread with a bit of charred edge, rich in chocolate notes, and dark figs and plums. Flavors are enhanced by a resiny pine profile, and clean brusqueness.
Cheers!
