Dear Readers,
We had our first snow this week. Not enough to stick on the ground in the area right around our house, but when I took the dogs out for their morning run, it was sticking to the ground. We run near the Chistochina River, towards the Alaska Range. We don’t go more than a couple miles from the house, but it’s enough of a change that the weather might be a little different.
The cottonwoods are 95% bare now – only a few stray leaves hang on the branches of some of the larger trees and on those trees and shrubs in more sheltered places. The ears and feet of snowshoe hares are turning white in preparation for snow. They are numerous this year and easy to spot as they change their coat. Once snow falls, they’ll pretty much be invisible, their presence only evidenced by tracks and trails across the snow.
Whatever season you’re in, I hope you’re finding as much pleasure in the changes as I am.
Kimi
