I am a Californian film critic living in the wilds of rural Maine. I am an analyst. I analyze things. I analyze as often by innate propensity as by deliberate intention. (Don´t ask my family if this is good or not.)

I have had some uniquely broadening opportunities in my background. I lived for short times in Europe and Africa while I did a short stint with a world charity organization. I worked in investments for a time until my children took precedence. I met a solar physicist who compelled me to become interested in quantum physics and cosmology. All these opportunities and their influences enliven my understanding of films and invest my reviews with fresh insight.

In addition, while doing undergraduate studies in literature, I founded and operated two review publications. These are the now retired The Arts Glance and Prime Movie Reviews.

My university studies were in Literature with an emphasis on Film Studies (...and Spenser and Chaucer and Goethe and the Russian soul in literature...like I said, I analyze things...). Prior to literature, I studied acting, psychology and creative writing. I settled on literature for the fun of the analysis. Currently, I am in the midst of work on a master´s degree in English Linguistics. From time to time, we´ll have the fun of looking at how linguistic considerations help get the director´s point across to you, the movie viewer.

I have been writing movie reviews for five years now and one of my big concerns is the effect of movies on families and families’ values, which are ultimately society´s values. We don´t want to hear movie-style witticisms addressed to children by their parents, and we don´t want to read in the news about acts that once only occurred in movies having been perpetrated on Ivy League campuses. For these reasons and others, getting a good picture of which movies and DVDs are not family-friendly is critical to carefree cinema cravings.
