Says Allan: “Although I have been on countless recording studios sessions with incredible players, I was most profoundly affected by the music of a 12-year old girl who played the guitar poorly. I believe it is not technical genius that gives music the power to heal, make us happy and give us comfort in times of stress. Rather, it is the intent of the performer.
“Whether you’ve been playing music for 15 years or five minutes, if you can connect to the music that lives inside you, it will also live in others.
“I love exchanging viewpoints and ideas. To me, it’s as if we are all pieces of a large, delicious pie, and we each bring our piece to the table. Together we share a scrumptious feast.”
Besides arranging and producing music, Allan also teaches jazz piano and improvisation. He lives with his wife, a children’s book writer and his Devon Rex cat. (The cat doesn’t write that well but occasionally cooks a great dinner).
