Harry Potter Character Listing: Professor Minerva McGonagall
Guest Author - Lisa Shea

Professor Minerva McGonagall is one of the first characters to show up in the Harry Potter story, in the form of a black cat. Harry soon comes to realize that she is a teacher at Hogwarts school of wizardry, that she is kind but firm, and very much looks out for him.

Not much background is given on Professor McGonagall. She teaches transfiguration, the ability to change an object into another. She very much stands up for her students, but also punishes them when they do wrong. It is she that grabs Harry and chooses him to be a seeker when she sees how well he does on the broom.

In book 5, when she is confronted by the new Dark Arts teacher, she firmly holds her ground and brooks no nonsense. She is a loyal friend to Dumbledore and defends him. She insists that she will help Harry achieve his dream of being an auror.
