Learn with Lego

Scholastic Editorial presents a new type of basic concept books for the infant and toddler. Children love Lego blocks. Why not create learning board books with Lego creations? Learn with Lego: Colors and Learn with Lego: Numbers are the result. Each board book has ten pages.

In each book, Lego creations grace the pages. Learn with Lego: Colors has different colored models. Just like the Lego toys the colors are vivid and eye-catching. The board book sticks to the basic colors. This is a great book to teach colors.

Learn with Lego: Numbers helps infants and toddlers learn numbers and to count. The board book helps kids to count from 1 to 10. Each page has a numeral and the number of objects which corresponds to the numeral.

Both Lego books have tabs. Use the Learn with Lego: Colors book's green tab. An infant or toddler will see green objects. In the other board book, use the fifth tab and see five objects and the numeral five.

The board books are great for children who love to play with Lego toys. Parents and teachers find it easy to transfer their interest from play to learning. In fact, many classrooms have Lego toys. After reading the story books, the preschool and elementary child at a play station can use the actual Lego blocks to reinforce the color and counting lesson. Parents who plan to use this idea, at home for infants and toddlers, buy the large size Lego toys. The smaller ones pose a possible choking hazard.

Children love to have a regular routine. A set bedtime and place to sleep are part of the daily routine. Read a bedtime story as part of the nightly ritual. Read quiet, soothing books to children in their warm, comfortable bed. This allows a child to associate reading with comfort and security. The association will continue a lifetime.
