Order of the Phoenix Chapter 35 Beyond the Veil. A gigantic spell fight between Harry's group and the Death Eaters ends with Sirius dying.
Harry's surrounded by Death Eaters who want the sphere - the "prophecy". They tease him for being a half-blood, and he tells them Voldemort was half blood too, that Voldemort's dad was a Muggle. Malfoy keeps the others from attacking because he wants to protect the sphere. An attack shatters a few other spheres and bits of prophecy emit from them.
Malfoy is delighted when he realizes Harry knows nothing about the prophecy. He's told that only those who a prophecy is about an take thesphere. He's told that the prophecy explains why Voldemort has been trying to kill him, even as a baby.
The group blow apart nearby shelves as a distraction and run for it. Harry, Hermoine and Neville end up in the time-reversing room and one of the Death Eater's heads goes from adult to baby and back again. One of the Death Eaters zaps Hermoine with a purple flame and she falls, motionless.
Neville's nose is broken but he takes Hermoine's body out to safety. Ron and Ginny show up - Ron has some sort of laughing disorder. Ginny's ankle is broken. Luna tries to help and is flung across the room by a spell. Ron decides to play with the brains in one room and it begins to attack him.
Now they move into the room with the archway. Bellatrix grabs Neville and begins to use Crucio on him. Beaten, Harry prepares to give the sphere to her when in come Sirius, Lupin, Moody, Tonks and Knigsley. A gigantic fight ensues. The sphere is broken by accident and nobody can hear the prophecy. Then suddenly, Dumbledore appears.
Bellatrix and Sirius continue to fight and she blasts him, causing him to fall through the archway. Lupin grabs Harry as Harry runs for the arch, and tells Harry it's too late - that Lupin is gone.
