Spritz Cookies

Spritz Cookies

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs - beaten
  • 1 tsp. almond flavoring
  • 2-1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • marachino cherries - cut in half
Preparation -
Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and almond flavoring. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt together. Add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture and mix well. Refrigerate the cookie dough for several hours before using. Fill a cookie press with the chilled dough. Press onto ungreased cookie sheets, using the flower or star shaped disc. Top each unbaked cookie with a marachino cherry half before baking. Or... Add a few drops of green food coloring to the dough, use the tree shaped disc and top the unbaked cookies with candy sprinkles or contrasting colored sugar. Bake in a preheated oven at 350º for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges of the cookies are very lightly browned.
