Essential Resources to Help Adults with ADD
Living with Attention Deficit Disorder can be a great thing when you have a difficult problem to solve. Research shows that people with ADD/ADHD are creative problem solvers. While parts of the life experience with ADD are wonderful, there are other pieces of the Attention Deficit Disorder path of life that are difficult. Here are some resources to help smooth the route for you.
Attention Deficit Disorder Association Website
This is a website full of substantive information about Attention Deficit Disorder. It is much easier to find information to enrich the lives of children with ADD. The Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA) is a non-profit with the goal of helping adults with ADD/ADHD live strength-based lives. There are facts and articles. Resources for support in the workplace and college are also available. Many resources for adults with ADD/ADHD are free on the website. However, some areas are for members only.
Membership has many privileges. The $45 that an individual membership costs is a small price to pay for the excellent educational opportunities that the ADDA provides for its members. Webinars and teleclasses are online for members. When ADDA has conferences and events, members get discounts. They also have a Resource Guide available.

Commanding Attention by Tess Messer
Tess Messer spent a “year and a half researching and writing a book on the treatments for ADHD that are not prescription drugs.” The resulting book is a masterful compilation of many different types of treatments to help people live a better life with Attention Deficit Disorder. From the tried and true to cutting-edge technology, Tess researched them all. If you want to know more about a subject, just look in the reference section. There are over 400 references for the material in her book. Is it dry and hard-to-read? Not at all! It has a wonderful conversational style. The book has helpful content, clear organization, and ease of use. At its heart, Commanding Attention is a book filled with practical suggestions.
The Hidden Curriculum of Getting and Keeping a Job by Brenda Smith Myles, PhD., Judy Endow, MSW, and Malcolm Mayfield, BS Civil Eng., explores every hidden facet of finding a job and keeping a job. In less than a hundred pages, the authors discuss finding a job, having an interview, dealing with the demands of the job, and rules that nobody tells about the workplace. While the first two sections are important for finding employment, the last two parts are essential for keeping a job. This book is easy to read and a breeze to use, since all of the topics are clearly delineated. Research has shown that adults with Attention Deficit Disorder are often unemployed or underemployed. This book can help.
Living Simply-Improve Your Life With Less Clutter by Tina Razzell seeks to help people live a less chaotic life Especially when multiple people in a home have ADD/ADHD, a household can spiral out of control. It can look like an explosion in a paper factory! Tina Razzell gives simple instructions for making it all better.
