Trixie Belden and the Gatehouse Mystery

Guest Author - Taisha Turner

The book, Trixie Belden and the Gatehouse Mystery by Julie Campbell, is the third in the Trixie Belden mystery series. Trixie Belden is a tween who lives with her parents and three brothers. Her best friend, Honey Wheeler, is a millionaire’s daughter. Honey lives on a country estate near the Belden family with her parents and adopted brother, Jim.

In, The Gatehouse Mystery, Trixie and Honey explore an old cottage on the Wheeler estate. Inside, the two girls discover a diamond. Honey is sure the diamond is expensive. Her father has taught her to recognize the value of gemstones. Honey wants to give the diamond to the police. Trixie wants to keep the stone and solve the diamond mystery.

Trixie wins the argument and Honey places the diamond in her jewelry box’s secret compartment. Changes happen at the Wheeler estate. They buy a new horse. The family hires a chauffeur and gardener.

Changes are happening at the Belden’s modest house as well. Trixie’s older brothers, Matt and Brian, return home. They were junior counselors at a summer camp. Mrs. Belden’s tomatoes are ripening. This requires Trixie to pick them for her mother each day. This chore, and her many others, delays her from solving the mystery of the diamond.

Why is the new chauffeur, Dick, interested in the layout of the Wheeler house? Why is Dick so rude to Trixie? Who came into the Wheeler’s house after midnight? These questions and many others puzzle the Belden and Wheeler kids.

The mystery deepens when Jim disappears. He was last seen with Dick. Dick says Jim is meeting them at the cinema. There is no Jim at the cinema. Trixie returns to the Wheeler house. Unfortunately, the diamond thief is there. Will help comes before it is too late?

Read Julie Campbell’s Trixie Belden and the Gatehouse Mystery. Trixie Belden is a delightful preteen(tween) with a delightful curious mind. It is a joy to solve the mystery along with her.
