Moving with Kids

Moving with children can be a traumatic experience. Be it to a new house, town or school, it frightens them. Children worry if they will make new friends. Are the new neighbors friendly? Will their old friends forget them? In a new school, they worry about new teachers, classmates and rules.

New experiences such as moving unsettle children. Infants, toddlers and elementary children cry and act out. Even tweens and teens have trouble with relocating. This is the reason many children book authors have books about moving. Board, picture and chapter books exist to help children express their fears. They help overcome them, too.

Parents are under stress themselves. A frantic, fretful child is the last thing needed during the move. The best solution is preparation. Take time, weeks in advance, and talk about the upcoming moving day. Discuss the reason for the move. One good way to prepare young children is reading a book on the subject with them. Incorporate the book’s solutions in their daily lives. Finding a list of moving day books is difficult. Adults are busy completing the closing and completing the other related activities. Therefore, the Bellaonline Children’s Books Editor has composed a suitable list. Teachers may use the books to comfort their new students. Many titles are in the community library.
