Sly the Sleuth - and the Pet Mysteries

Sly the Sleuth - and the Pet Mysteries
Donna Jo Napoli and her son, Robert Furrow’s, Sly the Sleuth and the Pet Mysteries contains three mystery stories. Sylvia or Sly is an amateur detective whose agency is Sleuth for Hire. This detective is one spunky ten-year-old. If one has a problem, this is the sleuth. All the cases, in this book, involve the pets of friends and neighbors.

The characters in Sly the Sleuth and the Pet Mysteries are depicted in great detail. One such charater is Brian’s mother. She does not feed Brian junk food. Her idea of a tasty after-school treat is flaxseed sprinkled on prunes. Image the average young reader’s opinion of her treat.

Sly the Sleuth and the Pet Mysteries helps the reader make the transition from picture to chapter books. Each chapter is short, but holds the child’s attention.

Heather Maione's ink drawings capture the playfulness of the stories. And, there is a great deal of them. Children at this step, still love pictures. Sly and Taxi, her cat and assistant, are drawn open and friendly.

This is a great tween book for the young reader. The Fat Cat, Wish Fish, and Frog Dog mysteries are sure to capture the reader's imagination.
