Liver Health with Natural Remedies

When was the last time you did something nice for your liver? Itís important, since next to the brain, a personís liver is the second largest internal organ in the body. To stay healthy, you need to keep it in good condition and working at a peak performance level.

Among its many functions, one of your liverís primary jobs is to help detoxify the harmful stuff that gets into your system every day. This includes pesticides, food additives, environmental pollutants, bacteria and viruses. Toxins enter your body through your skin (physical contact), mouth (eating and drinking) and nose (breathing).

Liver disorders are accelerated by alcohol abuse, excess weight (especially obesity), ingestion of drugs and chemicals (over the counter and prescription medications) and a poor diet (the food you eat and drink).

You can start taking better care of your liver by improving your diet and limiting your alcohol consumption. More than two drinks a day can be harmful, particularly for women. Use medications wisely, go easy on antibiotics (never use them for a viral condition) and limit your exposure to all chemical pollutants. For, example, when using paint sprays and other aerosol products, always wear a mask and work in a well-ventilated area.

A good diet and specific nutrients are essential for keeping your liver healthy. Avoid fatty foods, limit salt and maintain a healthy weight. Eat lots of bright red, orange, yellow, purple and dark green vegetables and fruits. Theyíre rich in vitamins A and C and the antioxidant phytochemicals Ė carotenoids, flavonoids and cruciferous factors. Also use plenty of garlic (preferably raw, as in a salad). Garlic is a powerful natural antibiotic and a big help to your liver.

Because of its important job to detoxify, your liver is taking good care of you. Itís important that you to take good care of it.

P.S. My recommendation for supplementation can be found at www.carotenoids.net. You can also ask them about their flavonoid, cruciferous and garlic supplements.
