Nature Books - Maisy's Wonderful Weather Book

Lucy Cousins writes and illustrates Maisy’s Wonderful Weather Book. Children learn facts about nature and the natural world about them. Infants, toddlers, plus preschool and elementary children love the colorful mouse, Maisy. She has many adventures as she learns about weather concepts.

In Maisy's Wonderful Weather Book, Maisy opens the curtains and sees the sun. The weather is not only sunny, but also warm. She goes to the beach.

As the children turn the 14 pages, they see different types of weather. Clouds are in the sky, therefore it is cloudy. Later, it is raining during a thunderstorm. Water is falling; thunder is flashing in the sky. On a windy day, the kite and leaves are blowing in the wind. There are scenes of a snowfall and rainbow.

The board book is a combination of lift tabs and slide-the-tab. Children love the activities. They keep their interest while children learn about the weather.

Maisy’s Wonderful Weather Book is a good book to introduce weather concepts. Have children look out the window and describe the weather; draw a picture of their observations.

The weather symbols in Lucy Cousins’ book are like the ones on television weather broadcasts. Watch the broadcasts together. Point out the symbols. Ask the children, what the symbols mean? Beware they will start telling the weather daily.

Help children with their reading skills. Teach them the words in a sentence are read from the left to the right. Sentences are read from the top of the page to the bottom. Familiarize them with the front and back of books. Show children to start reading on the first page. And, to turn the following pages, one by one, until they reach the last.

There is Spanish edition translated by Belen Cabal. Que Tiempo Hace Maisy has 14 pages and in the hardcover format, too. Learn the basic weather concepts in Spanish.
