America is out-of-step with the rest of the world when it comes to weights and measures. Most countries use the metric system while weíre still using US customary units (pounds and ounces, inches and feet). If youíre good at math, doing mental conversions isnít too hard if you remember a few rules. But Iím not terribly great at math nor do I have a great memory. Thank goodness I am computer literate and have found some cool, free online tools to use when I want to convert Japanese recipes with metric measurements into customary units. You simply input a number and select the desired unit of measure and click!
Then, following the links, you'll find a few great kitchen measuring tools that have both standard and metric measurement marks so you don't have to fuss with conversions or math at all.
