Here is a list of charities which supply knitted items to a variety of groups of people who need special help.
Afghans for Afghans [offsite link] A terrific organization dedicated to relieving the plight of the citizens of Afghanistan with the gift of hand-knit/crocheted blankets and clothing. Algerian Action [offsite link] Algerian Action is a small, not for profit organisation which helps to support needy babies and children in Algeria by providing them with clothing, toys and other essentials.
We are appealing for donations of handmade blankets for babies and children. All colours, shapes and designs are welcome.Alternatively you may like to donate some knitted or crocheted squares which can be made up into blankets by our volunteer knitters. Chemo Caps [offsite link] Started in memory of her daughter, Heather, who succumbed to cancer in 2000, Ronni Spoll´s charity has delivered thousands of caps to chemotherapy patients across the U.S. Find free patterns, information and more on her website. Handmade Especially for You [offsite link] A nonprofit organization, Handmade Especially For You creates and distributes knitted and crocheted "comfort" scarves to shelters for women throughout Southern California who have suffered domestic abuse. Those who volunteer to knit, crochet, hand craft comfort scarves for Handmade Especially are everywhere throughout the United States. Helping Hands [offsite link] Have some time you can devote to helping a youngster, or know what who would like to learn the craft? This might be the group for you! Adult mentors are paired with youth for teaching of the skills of knitting, crochet, and other needlearts. Find out how to start or join a chapter near you. Hugs for Homeless Animals [offsite link] "Project Snuggles" seeks to provide handmade blankets for homeless, lost or abandoned dogs and cats that end up in Humane Society shelters. Keeping Kids Warm-London, Ontario [offsite link] "Do you know that, in our city of London, Ontario, we have at least 200 kids under 24 yrs old, living homeless on the street?" Help knit for them. Knit for the Cure [offsite link] Founded in 2004, the Knit for the Cure™ Campaign recruits knitters & crocheters from all over the United States to make handmade scarves, hats, purses, pins, etc., all incorporating the color pink. The creations will be sold at various events sponsored by the Susan G. Komen in San Diego foundation. Operation Toasty Toes [offsite link] Operation Toasty Toes distributes home crafted slippers (knit or crocheted) to American servicemen and women. Project Linus [offsite link] Any "Peanuts" fan will know the security provided by Linus´ blanket. Donations may be knit, crocheted or sewn, and their website includes free patterns, pictures and information about their group. Warm Up America [offsite link] Sponsored by the Craft Yarn Council of America, this organization is committed to providing blankets for those in need. Make a single square or an entire afghan! Warming Families [offsite link] Worldwide charity providing clothing, blankets, toys and such to shelters, foster and nursing homes and other agencies in need.
