Holiday Reading for Kids

Holiday Reading for Kids
While there may be lots of toys under the tree or in gift packages, parents shouldn’t forget to give the gift of reading. Here are two ideas that can be given during the holidays but enjoyed throughout the year:

Personalized Books

Fun items that kids really love are the personalized holiday hats, stockings and shirts. It’s always enjoyable to decorate them using glitter and felt and they are often easy projects that can be done at school or home. However, a really great gift for kids are the customized books with stories starring the child and their friends.

The books available for customization have a variety of stories, including those about your child’s favorite Disney characters*. They also make great stocking stuffers or birthday gifts. The Disney books include your child in stories about the Disney Princesses, Pirates of the Caribbean, Finding Nemo, Toy Story 2, Winnie the Pooh and Cars. Nickelodeon characters include Dora the Explorer and Diego. This type of book is usually a big hit and it serves to get your child interested in reading. The Christmas books about your child’s adventure with Santa make great holiday bedtime stories.

Educational Fun Magazine

Another idea is getting a subscription to the Highlights Children Magazine. Subscription orders should be made as early as possible so that the first magazine can be used as a stocking stuffer. Highlights Children Magazine has been around for quite a while and it has been used in schools as an educational tool. However, the best thing about this magazine is that while it’s educational and age appropriate, it’s also fun! There are stories, jokes, craft ideas, and hidden puzzles which can keep children busy for hours. Highlights is geared for ages 6-12 while High Five (preschool version) is produced for ages 2-6.

Highlights offers break out magazines based on the contents for which Highlights have become famous. For instance, if your kids really love the hidden puzzles, you can order Hidden Puzzle, a magazine filled with only that type of puzzle. These additional magazines can be purchased as a onetime only set or placed on auto ship for convenience. The company also sales various hands on educational and entertaining games.

Incorporating reading with fun can be one of the most beneficial gifts given to any child. However, incorporating reading and fun with your child is even a better gift.
