This is by far the most complete classic guide to yoga I have ever seen or read, and also includes 160 photographs. A description of the main branches of yoga is included, with meditation falling under the category of Raja Yoga.

The large print text includes 80 postures, proper breathing practices, relaxation, cleansing and concentration techniques.
The postures are modeled by Sri Swami Satchidananda in very clear photographs and each has a complete description, but just looking at the pictures is enough to see how to do them.
Suggestions for sequences of postures are included for beginner, intermediate and advanced students.
Breathing techniques are described in great detail which I feel is really important if a person is using a text to learn the techniques. I recommend beginning with the easiest and progressing from there as it feels comfortable.
The cleansing techniques might seem foreign to the uninitiated into holistic cleansing practices, but nothing wrong with giving them a try - you might be surprised how well the natural way works.
The concentration techniques lead up to full meditation and are steps on the way to attaining bliss and joy.
I highly recommend this as the basic yoga reference text for teens and adults.
I would also like to share that the author also posed for all the photographs at age 55!
