Young Cam Jansen and the Speedy Car Mystery

Guest Author - Taisha Turner

David A. Adler is the author of Young Cam and the Speedy Car Mystery. The early chapter book is part of the Puffin Easy to Read series. It is for children between the ages four and eight-years-old.

Young Cam is an elementary student whose real name is Jennifer. Cam is short for a camera. They call her a camera because her memory “click” like a camera. She can remember things seen and heard. Young Cam uses this ability to help others.

In Young Cam Jansen and the Speedy Car Mystery, Cam Jansen and classmates attend their school’s Green Fair. Everyone enjoys viewing the science projects about keeping earth green.

Oh, no! A remote-controlled car is missing! One moment it’s there. The next moment it’s gone! Where is the car? Did someone take it? Will Young Cam and her amazing gift solve the speedy car mystery?

Young Cam Jansen series teach children to observe the world around them. Also, it teaches children to think logically. Cam solves problems by using what she has seen.

This early chapter book is easy to read. The print is bold and large. There are thirty-two pages. Cam and her friends are typical students to whom children can relate. Susanna Natti’s illustrations give children visual clues to the text. The sixteenth book in the mystery series will entertain children while they transition from picture books to chapter books.

Children like learning about their world. Why things are the way they are? Ask the child, where is their backpack? Why is it there? Is that the best place to place it? Why? If it isn’t, discuss a better place. Place the backpack in a mutually decided place. Do this with the child’s other items. Soon the child will become better organized.
