Goodbye Mousie

Goodbye Mousie
Goodbye Mousie is by Robie H. Harris. (Aladdin Paperbacks, 2005, Ages: 4 - 8, Paperback, )

This is a sad but necessary book. In the picture book, a young boy looses his beloved pet mouse, Mousie. The story explores the emotions swamping the child. Goodbye Mousie touches on universal feelings.

Mousie unexpectedly passes away during the night. The next morning, the little boy finds his pet dead. First, there is denial. Sadness follows, than anger. And finally, acceptance of the pet's death.

Robie H. Harris handles the book, Goodbye Mousie, beautifully. He validates the child’s feelings. We adults fail to this at times. This is a good book for a child who experiences death in the family whether of a pet or a relative. The book is for ages 4-8. Yet, read or purchase the picture book base on the child's maturity. You know your child. I would not recommend a teacher reading the book to pre-school students.
