Meditation Lessons - East Meets West
Guest Author - Susan Kramer

These lessons are inspired by traditions from the East and West - adapted for practical living in today's fast-paced and often chaotic world.

Some guidelines to promote success in your chosen practices

Keep practice regular and consistent - 5 minutes before bedtime every day becomes a great aide for regaining or maintaining peace of mind.

Combine meditation with a healthy living style for a complete holistic benefit.

Hold onto a positive outlook like a lifeline - it is easier to make decisions for the best outcome when feeling and thinking positive thoughts.

Treat everyone as your brother or sister, as we truly are a world family of humanity.

Live in harmony with family, friends and community to promote cooperation and collaboration for win-win outcomes on all levels - from family to world concerns.

Most importantly - remember the "golden rule" - treat others as you would wish to be treated.

Reflections

Though we are all members of the world family, we differ in personality and tendencies. No single meditation practice is ideal for all. According to your own inclinations, try and choose the practice or combination of meditations that works best for YOU!

I like to begin the day with prayers and affirmations for world peace. This puts me in a positive state of mind and energizes me for positive action. Even if I wake up slowly, after prayers and affirmations I am fully awake and set to go.

During the day, when listening to news or going about my chores, I occasionally think a little thought for peace and harmony in the world - sort of a mini-break. I relax in those moments and feel energized again.

Before bed is my time for reflection, journaling and silent meditation. This gets me in a peaceful and restful space for sound sleep.

I wish each of you much peace and harmony through the combination of meditation, a positive outlook, and healthy living habits!
