St. Francis Halloween Costume

This is an easy to make Halloween costume for kids or adults. It can be used year after year because it is made from sturdy sheet material.

Supplies that you'll need:
1 twin size flat bed sheet
1 package brown fabric dye
2 yards of rope for waist tie
Sewing scissors
Tape Measure

To make:
Keep in mind the height of the person to wear the costume. Measure person from ankle to shoulder and double number. Cut the length of sheet to that measurement.

Fold sheet in half lengthwise to form the front and back of costume.

In the center, snip out a 1 foot wide straight line slit on the fold for head to slip through.

That is the easiest way to make the costume.

For more advanced costume makers, try the costume on the person to wear it and cut back the sleeves to the wrist length. Stitch narrow hems on cut edges of neck and sleeves to keep from unraveling. Seam binding can be sewn around neck opening before dyeing the sheet.

Dye the sheet medium or dark brown following package directions. I do this in the washing machine and run a couple of cycles with bleach when done, so no future loads of clothes get dyed.

Hang costume to dry.

Use 2 yards of rope to go around the waist when the costume is put on and tie in a square knot at left front.

This is really a versatile design and can reused year after year with variations.

Excerpt from St. Francis Prayer
commonly used version
"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
Where there is sadness, joy."
